Historic homes on the East Bench and Jefferson

Large parts of the East Bench, Jefferson and Eccles districts are brick homes from the twenties and thirties with original wood-sash single-pane windows, often in a historic district where replacement is restricted and, aesthetically, undesirable anyway.

Low-E film is the standard answer. It preserves the sightlines and the original glass while measurably improving winter retention and summer rejection — and it removes the 99% of ultraviolet light that is bleaching hundred-year-old floors and woodwork.

Canyon wind off the Wasatch

Ogden gets serious east canyon wind events — the kind that put debris through glass and take down trees. Security film keeps a struck pane in its frame rather than opening the building to the weather, and it is inexpensive relative to what a breached window costs in a wind event. See security film.

25th Street and downtown commercial

Historic 25th Street storefronts have big original display glass, which fades merchandise fast and is the easiest entry point in the building after hours. Security film on the ground floor plus solar or clear UV on the display windows covers both without altering the historic character of the frontage.
