A retrofit privacy layer, not replacement glass
Smart film is applied to an existing pane after the glass and surrounding conditions are assessed. That makes it useful where replacing a finished conference-room wall, interior partition or residential window would create unnecessary demolition.
The electrical connection, busbar edge and controller still need a planned route and a clean finish. The assessment looks beyond pane dimensions to nearby power, trim depth, movable panels, moisture exposure and safe access.
What the two states actually mean
In the energized state, light passes through and the view becomes clearer. Some residual haze is normal and varies by product, lighting and viewing angle; it should not be sold as identical to untreated glass.
In the privacy state, the pane diffuses light and obscures detail. It is privacy rather than blackout: silhouettes or bright objects may remain perceptible, especially at close range or at night with strong backlighting.
Good fits and important limits
Common use cases include conference rooms, office fronts, bathroom zones and interior residential partitions where privacy needs to change during the day. Every opening still needs a suitability review.
PDLC privacy film is not the same as electrochromic or SPD solar-tint glazing. Those technologies modulate tint and solar transmission; this service is described only as switchable privacy film unless a different specified product is confirmed for a project.
