Park City is the hardest UV environment in our service area by a wide margin: 7,000 feet of thin atmosphere, an exceptional number of sunny days, and snow on the ground for months bouncing a second dose of ultraviolet up at the glass from below.
Altitude plus snow reflection
Ultraviolet intensity rises with elevation, so at 7,000 feet the glass takes a substantially heavier dose than the same window on the valley floor. Then fresh snow reflects a large fraction of the UV that hits it — so a Park City window in February receives direct sun from above and reflected sun from the snowfield below, at the same time.
That is why fading here happens on a compressed timeline. Hardwood, leather, art and textiles that would take a decade to show wear in a lower, cloudier place can go visibly patchy in a few seasons. Every film we install blocks 99% of UV, and on homes where the light and the view must not change at all, clear UV film stops the damage invisibly.
Mountain view walls and winter glare
Park City homes are built around the view, often with two-story window walls facing a ski run or a canyon. Nobody is going to accept a dark or mirrored film on that glass, so the work here is almost entirely spectrally selective — high infrared rejection, high visible light transmission, minimal exterior reflectance.
Winter glare off snow is its own complaint, distinct from summer heat. Low January sun plus a white field in front of it produces enough brightness to make a room genuinely uncomfortable in the middle of a cold day, and cutting the visible intensity slightly makes a large difference.
Second homes, HOAs and property managers
A large share of Park City property is second homes managed remotely. Film protects an unoccupied house’s interior while nobody is watching it, and we coordinate access with property managers rather than requiring the owner to fly in.
Summit County HOAs and design-review committees frequently restrict exterior reflectivity. Tell us your community during the quote and we will specify a neutral film that reads as ordinary glass from outside and will pass review.
