How one-way privacy actually works
Reflective and dual-reflective films work on a light differential. During the day the outside is much brighter than the inside, so the film mirrors that brighter light away and an outside observer sees reflection instead of your living room. From the inside, looking toward the darker direction, you see straight through.
That differential flips after dark. Once your interior lights are on and the outside is dark, a reflective film no longer provides privacy — that is physics, not a product defect, and any installer who tells you otherwise is overselling. For 24-hour privacy you want a frosted or blackout film instead.
Picking the right level
Ground-floor rooms that face a sidewalk or a neighbor’s window usually want Sleek Mirror or Sleek Dual — strong daytime privacy that also happens to be the best heat rejection in the lineup. Sleek Dual gets you close to the same performance with a more neutral, less mirrored exterior appearance, which matters if you are in an HOA or just do not want the mirrored look.
Bathrooms, glass office doors and front-door sidelights want Sleek Frost, which is opaque day and night while still passing light. Garages, workshops and storage rooms usually want Sleek Out, which blocks essentially everything. See also decorative & frosted film.
A note on HOAs
Some Utah HOAs restrict exterior reflectivity. If you are in a covenanted community, tell your rep during the on-site quote and they will steer toward a neutral or dual-reflective option that reads as ordinary tinted glass from the street.
