Window film in Orem.

Orem’s housing stock skews to the sixties, seventies and eighties, which means a lot of aluminum-framed sliders, original single pane, and early double-pane units that are past their prime. Film does more for that glass than for almost anything newer.

Aluminum frames and single pane

An aluminum window frame is a straight thermal bridge — the metal conducts outdoor temperature directly into the room, which is why those windows sweat in winter and feel hot to the touch in August. Film cannot fix the frame, but it can cut the solar gain coming through the glass, which is where most of the summer load actually enters.

On true single pane a Low-E film is the better buy, because it works in both seasons and single pane loses heat dramatically. It is not a replacement window, and we will tell you that plainly — it is roughly a tenth of the cost and it makes the room usable now.

Early double pane, and why film selection matters

Homes updated in the eighties and nineties often have double-pane units with tinted or reflective factory glass. Layering the wrong film on that kind of unit raises the thermal stress on the pane, and a cheap installer who does not check will happily do it anyway.

We identify the glass type during the on-site quote and select a film rated for it. If a particular unit is not a safe candidate, we say so and skip it rather than take the job and hope. We also offer an optional glass breakage protection add-on for complete peace of mind.

State Street commercial and the university corridor

The State Street retail corridor is largely older storefront glazing with big single-pane display windows that cook the merchandise behind them. Solar film with 99% UV rejection stops the fading and takes a meaningful bite out of the cooling bill on a building whose HVAC is often as old as the glass.

Figures are industry-typical ranges for solar and Low-E window film, not a guarantee for your specific home. Actual savings depend on window orientation, existing glass, and local energy rates.

How long does the installation take?
Most homes are finished in one to two days. A handful of windows can be done in a morning; a large home with a lot of glass, or a commercial building, gets scheduled in phases so no room or floor is out of use for long. Your rep gives you the actual timeline at the on-site quote, not an estimate over the phone.
Will it lower my power bill?
Typically 10–30% off cooling costs in summer and 10–20% off heating with a Low-E film in winter, with most projects paying for themselves in about two to three years. Those are ranges rather than promises: your actual saving depends on your glass area, orientation, insulation, HVAC efficiency and how you set the thermostat.
Will my windows look dark or mirrored?
Only if you choose a film that does. The lineup runs from Sleek Clear UV, which is essentially invisible, up to Sleek Mirror at 5% visible light transmission. Most homeowners land on a spectrally selective film that rejects a lot of heat while keeping the room bright and the exterior neutral. You see samples on your own glass before deciding.
